Finding: Genshin's water exists only in horizontal, 2 dimensional sheets. Additionally, true water is not graphically represented at all times, while graphically represented water is only an approximation. Evidence: See clips at the following link - https://imgur.com/a/j0b5Y5a 1 shows Jean standing in waterfall without getting wet. 2 shows venti climbing into waterfall below the 2d plane of "true water" without getting wet, but getting wet when he climbs into it at a slightly higher angle. When Venti then falls through the waterfall, he remains dry the entire time before impacting the second 2D plane of water. Greyhound's videos demonstrate that such planes appear to have water properties from below (Clip 3), and that its edges in some cases look to be perfectly square (Clip 4). Razor illustrates the trouble with this in Clip 5 by electrocharging the "true water" hidden below a dry floor and hurting himself with the resulting electrocharge AoE. Significance: Electro is awful for the overworld because you can electrocharge water which resides in a flat sheet invisibly below the ground with AoE attacks. By doing this, you take continuous damage while standing on a dry surface. Also, you can stand in waterfalls without getting

every single one of my videos is unlisted with the only purpose being evidence, if I wanted views or to be a CC I'd have started a long time ago but that's too much work for little reward

I'm pretty sure this also lines up with existing ideas in the tcl like that water is coded as a layer that can be detected by other objects.

I forgot the ice bridge oh my god. the implication is probably worthy of another ticket: ice on water is self sustaining and extends an independent layer. we can probably argue that electrocharged water is doing the same thing, that's why it hurts people who don't get wet - another layer is being added above it.

this would also explain the stupid anemo skill environment effects ticket i had been rolling around in my head for a while

ok so i looked at the zoom cancelling via shallow water and read your comments on raycasting. my sense of this is that genshin water does have a hitbox floating above it oor at least generate one under certain conditions, the layer that electro and freeze can be applied to.

you can see from @Greyhound | Cryo Currency Dealer 's video in the imgur thread that they were able to freeze water from below, so i think the layer is on either side of the water sheet

however i just tested to see if i could use camera zoom to detect this later of water we think is under the island and i couldn't. however this is just high enough to be unable to see electrocharged from the crystal, so maybe it is already too far above it

there's a second tick of aoe damage from this crystal (and others) we found in #cursed-terrain-world-levels so i was curious to see if we could use zoom to detect that layer, but i think it's too high

i may have done the test wrong though, i don't know much about the burst zoom

but if you think water might be generating a hitbox around it for elemental effects that'd square with what we found

also the water itself seems to be reaction-independent. i don't know coding or gamedev, but that sort of makes sense to me that it would be this other layer on top that gets modified(edited)

e.g. when you use aMC to swirl ice, they pull hydro from underneath with the hold E

thanks for that comment and the zoom thing, it's good support for this idea. we were wondering if this layer might be getting stretched or deformed to make terrain in general, but so far i think the original spirit of this ticket that it is a flat rectangle seems to be holding up best

Going to close this header and leave the first link here https://discord.com/channels/763583452762734592/851944273712644116/851944682400251904 I had a theory in #cursed-terrain-world-levels that perhaps the 2d sheet of water layer was being reshaped to make terrain (due to some weird crystal effects we found on select rocks), but I think that is pretty out there. Resolving this as is.
