drop off doesn't affect horizontal velocity
so drop off shouldn't make a difference for your data
actually I just realized this gives you a new way to calculate gravity

It always made me curious why even though there is a terminal falling velocity, fall damage still increases even after reaching it (this happens in a lot of games actually)

the way minecraft does it is it counts the amount of blocks you fall
so if you hang a cow on a lead, it will bounce up and down and build up horrendous amounts of fall damage
then, even if it touches the ground with 0 velocity it will insta die
