could you test applying geo (via another way) and then immediately trying to crystallize? i'm wondering if the geo arua caused by perrify is different from other geo auras

this is what i'm speculating as well.
normal geo application = no aura
petrify = aura but inert
normal geo application = no aura
petrify = aura but inert

Oh, the reason why people thought Mihoyo changed Zhongli's kit 
Someone found out about this in 1.1 in reddit, and one of the prevailing theories from back then was that petrify was suppose to cause a state where the enemies would act as a Geo construct (Thus petrified enemies would resonate with pillar and also can be turned to dust by his hold E) but Mihoyo chickened out of that and just made his petrify do the thing it does today

I can't really recall, or test right now but if I remember correctly, if you hold E on petrified enemies it also gives you the special vfx that you get if you hold E on the things you can deplete Geo aura from
If there are nearby targets with the Geo element, it will drain a large amount of Geo element from a maximum of 2 such targets. This effect does not cause DMG.

Finding: Geo "Aura" investigation.
Evidence: There exists a Geo Aura in some enemies (Geo Hypostasis, Shielded Large Geo Slime, Armored Stonehide Lawachurl and Armoed Fatui Skirmisher - Geochanter Bracer) and in the Petrified status from Zhongli's Elemental Burst. This Aura possesses some interesting properties:
Β€ Opponents who have this Aura have a Geo symbol above them, which can also appear above special boss-like health-bars, and they also have the Geo color when looked at with the Elemental Sight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5Ro0vl4aY0.

not sure if you can use the elemental sight while attacking tho
oh, the tcl for zl doesnt say anything about how much geo gu hold e removes
from my experience playing with him, it should be a large amount
the wiki says it will drain 8U or 6U

so it doesnt have any gauge units related to it

i was always under the impression that non-geo characters could trigger crystallize on a shielded geo slime
apparently not
so i'm thinking zl petrify and geo slime shields work similarly?

The idea is that there's two kinds of Geo Aura: One that causes Crystallize and one that doesn't, right?
I'm aware that the Primo GeoVishap can be Crystallized of off, which made me wonder
what about the Geo Hypostasis?

LMAO you cant trigger crystallize on the geo hypostasis either
nor on geo mitachurls
which means there's a type of geo aura present in
1. zl petrified status
2. geo hypostasis
3. geo slime shield
4. geo mitachurl
that are all inert
1. zl petrified status

but still are visible thru elemental sight
this also goes against how i heard hypostases applying their own elements to themselves
so
1. normal geo attacks (from characters and enemies) can apply geo, but not a geo aura
